A Lesson in Cultural Diplomacy

It’s amazing what kind of beauty can transpire when people around the globe work together. Case in point, Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir, featuring 2,052 performances from 58 countries. One journalist had this to say about the piece: “For whatever precision the performance might lose due to the method–many voices in individual bedrooms spanning the globe–it gains exponentially by connecting them, easily surpassing any previously heard live performance by the sheer impact of linking so many persons at latitudes and longitudes around the world. Choir: Ultimate Edition, anyone?“
Simply put, the effect is stunning.

Life’s a Pitch

By now, I bet most of you have heard about the flash mobs popping up at malls all over the country during the Holiday season to sing the Hallejuah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah. (I’ve blogged about similar events before here and here.) They’re fun and great PR, but also…dangerous? Two months after a California mall […]

Libiamo” Among the Lemons

I love when I hear about nonprofits doing innovative marketing like this: Granted, they didn’t think of the idea first (they were inspired by this stunt), but the execution was fabulous.  Just look at all those SMILES in the audience! You can’t buy that kind of goodwill, you have to create it.

Marketing 101: How to Pull Off a Brilliant Publicity Stunt

Watch and learn: Because of the language barrier, I’m not clear on whether the company was promoting Verdi’s La Traviata or just having fun, but if they were doing the show I’d bet a large number of those present  went out and bought tickets pronto. Every single one of them will tell their friends about what […]

Free Stuff Friday: FreeMind

In a nutshell: FreeMind is opensource software useful for brainstorming projects, taking notes, and organizing, well, almost anything. Useful for: Teachers Students Writers Nonprofit administrators Anyone who needs to organize stuff Why I Like It: I was skeptical about “mindmapping” software at first. What could this do for me and my writing that I couldn’t do in […]
